A Dismal Performance Leaves England In A Precarious Position

A dismal performance leaves England in a precarious position

England's batting order crumbled in the face of relentless Australian bowling, bundled out for a record low of 68 in just over an hour on the third day of the third Ashes Test in Melbourne

The tourists resumed their second innings on 31-4, still trailing Australia by 158 runs, but were blown away by a rampant home attack led by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.

Cummins finished with figures of 5-38, while Starc took 4-37 as England's batsmen were unable to cope with the pace and bounce of the MCG pitch.

The dismissal of Joe Root for just 28 proved to be the decisive moment, as the England captain was caught behind off the bowling of Cummins.

Ben Stokes (14) and Jos Buttler (11) were the only other England batsmen to reach double figures, as the innings folded for a record low against Australia.

The defeat leaves England facing a daunting task to save the match, with Australia requiring just 68 runs to win with two days remaining.
